Intro.
For this project we were tasked with solving a problem using biotechnology. Our group chose to solve pollution and the energy crisis. we chose to use ethanol and make drought resistant corn to increase ethanol production. WE chose this issue because the reality of climate change is very real and we want to find a solution. we wanted to make corn drought resistant because currently over 50% of the us is in a drought. The ethanol production is currently streamlined and we found the best way to improve it was to make corn drought resistant.
Concepts.
Ethanol- is a renewable fuel source made from corn and other plant matter.
ACBP2- a protein coder that makes plants more drought resistant. It comes from the Thale Cress Weed.
Energy crisis- a limit on the amount of fossil fuels in the world. The most significant energy crisis happened in 1973 but the possibility of it happening again is. very high.
Pollution- Emitted by the burning of fossil fuels can be lessened when ethanol is mixed with gasoline

Reflection.
This project was fun to work on but we did run into some problems. I really liked how we were given the freedom to choose any problem that we wanted. We did have some problems getting the work in on time but it was rarely over a day late. i think this was partly due to the fact that one of our group members left early on and we had to redo the work that he had. One thing we did do well was that we choose problems that are widely know and we could easily find research on it. But the downside to this is that it was hard to find a solution that hasn't been tried before. Another negative i found was that me and my group member didnt see eye to eye on some ideas in our solution. Overall i liked the project but i felt a little rushed.
